Description

The Surface Landman will be responsible for specific duties surrounding all surface land functions and will be required to have a strong working knowledge of the land business, as well as the current rules and regulations for drilling and operations, preferably in the State of Pennsylvania. The Surface Landman will need to understand permitting, title, and leasing, and be able to schedule construction on-sites, negotiate surface damages and be able to react to complex problems or issues that arise as the asset team prepares development strategies.

Roles & Responsibilities:
• Serve as company liaison with landowners, local, county, state and federal regulatory agencies
• Coordinate and collaborate closely with other departments in support of company’s operations to ensure regulatory compliance
• Negotiating on behalf of the company with landowners to acquire oil and gas leases, pipeline rights of way, meter site agreements, and other related agreements. Such agreements and acquisitions may have significant financial impact
• Interpret and enforce lease rights and obligations and ensure compliance
• Preparing leases, addendums, rights of way and all other documents and reports as necessary
Preparing courthouse lease, ownership and assessment reports.
• Conducting and assembling title searches and reviews as necessary
• Representing the company in handling complaints, arbitrating disputes or resolving grievances that may arise during negotiations with landowners and business activities with regulatory agencies
• Determine and coordinate appropriate site-specific mitigation measures to ensure regulatory compliance

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college, with a preference for Land Management. Law, Environmental Science or related field
• Minimum of five years’ previous experience in negotiating leases, rights-or-way/surface access or similar responsibilities is preferred
• Certified Land Professionals are strongly preferred
• Commitment to operating with the highest integrity, commitment to safety and the care of the environment
• Excellent presentation and negotiation skills.
• Able to make educated decisions that may have significant financial impact on the organization.
• Strong working knowledge of federal, state and local regulations as they relate to surface access and environmental protection (preferably for Pennsylvania)
• Professional, enthusiastic and participative attitude towards the team’s goals and objectives
• Able to provide expert advice to management on the matter of acquisitions, rights of way and related surface access permitting
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Able to investigate and resolve matters of significance that relate to surface access
• Capable of building strong relationships, both internally and externally
• A fundamental understanding of exploration and exploitation procedures
• Familiarity with computerized land management systems and proficiency in core office applications (word processing, database, spreadsheets, e-mail, mapping packages, etc.)
• Must be mobile and independently motivated to complete all assigned duties
• 75% local travel, 25% office. Must be able to traverse difficult terrain, such as woods, fields, etc. and work in sometimes harsh weather conditions
