Description

Nexen is seeking a Houston based Commercial Manager to join the leadership team of OOGC America, and guide and manage the Commercial and Land functions.

Reporting to the President of OOGC America, you will provide surface and subsurface commercial and land support to both the Eagle Ford and Niobrara asset teams. While your primary responsibility will be to manage all aspects of OOGC’s land function (including joint venture management and commercial undertakings), you will also perform as a member of OOGC’s leadership team, contributing to activities such as strategic planning and budgeting. In addition, you will be expected to coordinate with Nexen’s Canadian Operations Division’s Land function and other departments as appropriate.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
•Lead a multi-disciplinary team delivering all Commercial and Land aspects related to CNOOC Nexen’s Eagle Ford and Niobrara tight oil developments;
•Manage individual performance of team members per Nexen’s Performance Management process and phases - e.g. individual goals and accountabilities, feedback and career discussions, training and development, and compensation;
•Development of a strong land administration system and commercial strategy for asset base
•Monitor competitor activity in area of responsibility, and communicate findings to the asset teams, and business unit and/or division management;
•Advance a partner influencing and joint venture strategy including considerations to maximize value within existing AMI;
•Lead, and support as required, discussions with partners on JOA and other agreement interpretations;
•Collaborate with Asset Team, Legal, Finance and Planning on all AMI matters as required;
•Collaborate with Asset Team Managers and other members of OOGC’s leadership team in the planning, formulation and execution of asset team, development and general business strategies;
•Closely coordinate with Business Development to seek out investment opportunities which are aligned with strategic objectives;
•Initiate and develop business relationships within industry, but specifically within the asset teams' areas of business, and with a focus on strategy execution;
•Monitor the performance of contractual obligations by both OOGC and its partners;
•Actively lead discussions for upcoming sales of interest, by providing advice on potential competitors, historical sales, posting and bidding strategies;
•Communicate and work well with Finance, Legal, Planning & Economics and Land Administration groups.

Education & Experience
•Petroleum Land Management Degree or equivalent is required, with preference for post graduate degree in business/commercial;
•Experience in managing a non-operated asset and a proven track record in influencing operations;
•Experience in acquisition and divestiture activities with demonstrated capability to understand the big picture commercial implications;
•Minimum of 15+ years' of experience as a Land Negotiator within a multi-discipline asset team;
•Preference will be given to candidates with direct land management experience in the Eagle Ford and Niobrara basins;
•Experience, comfort and familiarity with US land, legal and operational rules and regulations in Texas, Colorado and Wyoming;
•Comprehensive understanding of applicable regulatory rules and regulations, to ensure that the actions of the business unit are compliant;
•Initiative to understand and drive the Nexen culture of accountability, respectful behaviours and achieving best in class results;
•Strong knowledge and application of land and negotiating principles, theories and concepts;
•Demonstrated ability to recognize, analyze and resolve difficult negotiations;
•Outstanding team player with strong interpersonal skills to effectively lead the team to achieve goals;
•Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, and deliver desired results within established timeframes and budgets;
•Excellent business and commercial acumen, complemented by strong ethics;
•Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office;
•Strong leadership, communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills;
•Proven track record in building, maintaining and enhancing networks and relationships.
